Bing Fire Day Master (丙火)

A Bing Fire Day Master (丙火) is someone born on a day whose Heavenly Stem is Bǐng, the Yang Fire stem. Its classical image is the sun itself, a source of heat and light so strong that, in the old verse, it scorns frost and snow.

The image of Bing Fire

Bing is Fire in its yang form, and the sun is the natural picture for it: one source, shining on everything at once, without needing fuel from the ground. Its sibling Ding, the yin side of Fire, is a lamp or hearth fire, small and tended, giving light to a single room. The contrast is about scale and direction. Bing radiates outward and broadly, while Ding concentrates inward and closely. The sun image also brings in rhythm. It rises, peaks and sets each day, and its warmth changes by season. Classical writers often read Bing through this lens of timing, asking whether a chart's sun shines in summer or in winter.

The classical verse

The Di Tian Sui (滴天髓), a classical BaZi text with commentary by Ren Tieqiao (Qing dynasty), gives each stem a short verse. This is the verse for Bing Fire.

丙火猛烈,欺霜侮雪。
Bing Fire is fierce and bold; it scorns the frost and mocks the snow.

能煅庚金,逢辛反怯。
It can forge Geng Metal, yet meeting Xin it turns timid.

土众成慈,水猖显节。
Amid much Earth it becomes kind; facing raging Water it shows its integrity.

虎马犬乡,甲来焚灭。
In the land of Tiger, Horse and Dog, if Jia arrives it burns to ruin.

Di Tian Sui, “Ten Stems”. English rendering by ClearBaZi.

Commentators read the opening as Bing's indifference to winter cold. Geng, hard yang Metal, is the material a strong sun can temper. Xin, soft yin Metal, combines with Bing, and that bond is said to soften its edge, which is why the verse calls it timid. Plenty of Earth absorbs Fire's heat, so the fierceness turns gentle, like a parent toward a child. When Ren Water surges, Bing is said to hold firm rather than yield. The Tiger, Horse and Dog are Yin (寅), Wu (午) and Xu (戌), which together form a Fire frame. Adding Jia Wood there is read as fuel on an already blazing fire, so the chart overheats.

Themes you may recognize

Strengths

  • Generosity that flows freely without keeping score.
  • Courage to face cold or difficult situations head-on.
  • A sunny honesty that makes hidden agendas feel uncomfortable.
  • Firmness under pressure, especially when others push hard.

Growth edges

  • Letting quieter voices finish before offering your own view.
  • Recognizing when your warmth starts to feel like too much heat.
  • Allowing gentle influences to soften you without losing yourself.

At work

At work, Bing themes often show up as visibility and candor. You may notice that you prefer clear goals and open communication over politics behind closed doors. Roles that let you shine light on a problem, or make something easier for many people to see, often suit this Day Master. Because the sun shines on everyone equally, fairness tends to matter a great deal in how teams are run.

In relationships

In relationships, Bing energy is often open-handed and affectionate. You may notice that you show love through enthusiasm, invitations and wholehearted attention. The verse's line about Earth turning Fire kind is sometimes read as a hint: having people and responsibilities to care for can make that heat feel nurturing. Partners and friends often value your honesty, and closeness tends to grow when you also make room for their quieter rhythms.

The Day Master is one character out of eight. The rest of the chart, especially the season and the other stems, shapes how these themes show up.

How Bing Fire relates to the other stems

In BaZi, every other stem in your chart plays one of the Ten Gods roles relative to your Day Master. For a Bing Fire Day Master:

Bing Fire through the seasons

The month you were born in sets the season, which classical BaZi weighs most when judging how supported the Day Master is. Months begin at the solar terms, not on the 1st.

SeasonMonth branchesFor Bing Fire
SpringTiger, Rabbit (寅 卯), about Feb 4 – Apr 5Wood: supported
SummerSnake, Horse (巳 午), about May 5 – Jul 7Fire: in season
AutumnMonkey, Rooster (申 酉), about Aug 7 – Oct 8Metal: busy
WinterPig, Rat (亥 子), about Nov 7 – Jan 6Water: under pressure
Transition monthsDragon, Goat, Dog, Ox (辰 未 戌 丑), the last month of each season: about Apr 5 – May 5, Jul 7 – Aug 7, Oct 8 – Nov 7 and Jan 6 – Feb 4Earth: expressive

In season means the season of its own element; traditionally the Day Master has the season's support. Supported: the season of the element that feeds it. Expressive: the season of the element it produces. Busy: the season of the element it controls. Under pressure: the season of the element that controls it. Season is one factor; the whole chart decides overall strength.

Bing Fire and Xin Metal: the stem combination

Bing Fire pairs with Xin Metal in one of the five stem combinations (丙辛合). Traditionally the pair is drawn together, and under the right seasonal conditions the combination is said to transform toward Water. In a chart, it can describe a strong pull between the areas of life the two stems represent. Whether it transforms is a technical question that depends on the month and the rest of the chart.

Questions

Why does the verse say Bing Fire is timid with Xin Metal?

Bing and Xin form a classic stem combination that traditionally transforms toward Water. Commentators read this as Bing being drawn into a bond that dampens its usual fierceness. Whether that actually happens in a chart depends on the month and the surrounding elements. It is a reminder that even the strongest stem can be softened by the right relationship.

What element helps Bing Fire?

There is no single answer; tradition looks at the whole chart. A winter Bing often welcomes Wood for fuel. A summer Bing, already hot, is usually balanced by Water, which gives the sun something to shine on, and by Earth, which absorbs extra heat. The verse warns that adding Wood to a chart already full of Fire tends to tip things into excess.

How do I know if I am a Bing Fire Day Master?

Your Day Master is the Heavenly Stem of the day you were born. Enter your birth date in the Day Master calculator, or your full birth details in the BaZi calculator for the exact chart. If the stem of your Day pillar is 丙 (Bǐng), you are a Bing Fire Day Master.
